The horror scene of the small plane crash in the Everglades, Florida, US, was made even more gruesome by the brutal animal attack.
The plane wreckage was discovered on Wednesday night (July 5) four days after the plane took off on an unauthorized trip from a flight school.
The sole occupant of the single-engine Cessna 152 was the pilot, who has been formally identified.
The reports concluded that the victim was a student at the Dean International Flight School, in Miami, after it was confirmed by his horrified classmates.
In footage filmed from a helicopter for local news station WPLG, an alligator is spotted devouring the victim’s body.
A massive alligator is seen next to the body, feasting on the remains in the shocking video.
“A gator appears to be chewing on a body next to the wreckage,” WPLG managing editor Peter Burke tweeted.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
