Married women are worried as commercial sex workers are invading the town to also get a share of the money from male farmers.
The women fear that their husbands will squander all their hard earned cash with the prostitutes.
“I am strongly against the sex workers as their aim is only to drain our husband’s pockets and bank accounts,” said Peninah Rono, a housewife.
“We got a huge harvest and my husband cheated me that he had used all the wheat proceeds to buy land but when I insisted on having a look at the purchase documents he turned violent and threatened to discipline me for questioning him,” said Jemima Jepkoech, one of the women who are concerned by the influx of prostitutes in the town.
“I really suspected that he must have lavishly spent the money on prostitutes in town.”
The men, however, seem to love their arrival and are ready to have some good time with them.
“What is the problem if we spend our hard-earned cash on these beautiful women who are ready to obey us,” said Peter Kiplimo who is from the area.
It’s a trend we have seen year in year out whereby prostitutes follow money around the country as soon as they get the news on have been paid.
On top of that, they have mastered the seasons when farmers get paid so they usually know which counties to invade every year.
One commercial sex worker from Mtwapa, Mombasa shared why she loves going to Eldoret.
“One thing I like with Eldoret is that men here are very generous and gentle. They can even give you more money than you had asked for,” she said.
